VEFmusic help — Track screen

Overview

Fill in the title, the duration, the album (optional), an optional comment and optional lyrics, upload the audio file, then choose how visitors can listen.

Listening mode

  • Preview only — visitors hear a short preview; full playback is reserved for buyers with VEFmusic Pro.
  • Free full listen — the whole track is available to everyone.
  • Buyers only — like “preview” for visitors; designed for selling single tracks with VEFmusic Pro.

The length of the preview is set once for the whole site in Settings > General (“Default preview length”). “Preview length (seconds)” on a track replaces it for that track only.

If a track has no duration entered, its real duration is read from the audio file (WAV, FLAC or MP3), so the preview length always applies. A duration entered by hand takes precedence.

Audio file

The file is uploaded into the “Master file” field. It is never stored in the WordPress media library nor reachable by a direct link: playback always goes through an access check.

When the hosting allows it, a light MP3 version is generated automatically from a FLAC, WAV or M4A master and used first on the site. Otherwise a button next to the file field converts it in your browser, or you can upload a light MP3 yourself.

The MP3 version is encoded at 320 kbps. A track converted with an earlier version keeps its quality until you upload its master file again.

On upload, the duration and the genre are read from the tags of the file and filled in when they are empty. A title or an album found in the tags is only shown as a note: it is never applied by itself.
