Burning Skies

We drove until the city disappeared
With the windows down, the ocean drawing near
The wind was carrying the scent of rain
And for a while we forgot every name

The road was winding underneath the trees
The sunlight moving softly through the leaves
You looked at me and smiled without a word
And suddenly the whole world could be heard

There's a place beyond the noise
Where we can hear our own voice
No promises we have to keep
Just this moment, just this sea

Under burning skies
With the ocean in our eyes
We don't need to know tomorrow
We just need to feel alive

Let the wind carry us
Let the old world disappear
If this moment is all we have
Then I want to be right here

The evening came in colors on the bay
The last light slowly turning gold to grey
The trees were whispering above the sand
And I could feel your fingers in my hand

We have spent so many years trying to know
Which way the river, which way life would flow
But maybe life was never meant to be
A map of where we're going, only where we need to be

There's a fire beneath the silence
There's a rhythm in the rain
And every breath we take together
Makes the moment live again

Under burning skies
With the ocean in our eyes
We don't need to know tomorrow
We just need to feel alive

Let the wind carry us
Let the old world disappear
If this moment is all we have
Then I want to be right here

We don't own the road
We don't own the sea
We don't know where the years will take us
Or who we're meant to be

But I know this moment
And I know your hand
Sometimes that's enough
To understand

Under burning skies
With the ocean in our eyes
We don't need to know tomorrow
We just need to feel alive

Let the wind carry us
Let the old world disappear
If this moment is all we have
Then I want to be right here

Under burning skies
With the whole world far behind
I'll keep walking by your side
With an open heart and open mind

The road goes on
The sea rolls in
The light is fading
But we're still here

Under burning skies
